Product Recap: Q1 2025
In the first quarter of 2025, we shipped some major updates at Finch. We expanded our coverage, grew our impact in the retirement industry, and continued improving the core experience for every customer, employer, and developer who relies on Finch.
Here’s a closer look at what we shipped in Q1 and how it’s helping us build a more connected future for employment.
Balancing platform stability and growth
We grew the number of active employees connected through Finch by nearly 40% this quarter. As we scale the number of employees and employers who rely on our platform, we’re committed to maintaining system reliability. In Q1, we invested heavily in connection success and long-term stability.

Connection experience upgrades in Finch Connect
We introduced several improvements to help more employers complete authentication workflows through Finch Connect successfully on the first try:
- Progress indicator: Provides visual guidance to assure employers their connection is being established and their session has not timed out
- Exit survey: Captures critical insight on why employers abandon setup
- Error resolution: Makes the platform experience more seamless for end-users through new features like See/Hide Password and format validation on entered data, such as company codes
Keeping connections healthy over time
At the same time, we made behind-the-scenes improvements to maintain connections once they’ve been authenticated. These will help to reduce connection degradation and ensure data continues to sync as expected:
- Improved fallbacks to complete the connection process when the primary provider authentication flow experiences temporary issues
- Extended connection lifespans through expanded coverage of the required permissions for reliable connectivity while still adhering to the principle of least privilege, reducing re-authentication and keeping data flowing seamlessly
Investing in retirement infrastructure
In Q4 of last year, we announced expanded platform features for recordkeepers and TPAs, and the response speaks for itself: since year-end 2024, we’ve seen a 34% increase in the number of employers who have connected their payroll systems with their 401(k) administrator through Finch.
This quarter, we’ve continued to invest in the retirement sector, expanding access, accelerating automation, and helping more administrators keep pace with demand and compliance.
New partnerships

- In April, we launched an expansion of our PensionPro partnership with 3(16) services, which enable ongoing payroll syncing. The first TPAs to use Finch in conjunction with PensionPro onboarded in Q1 and have already realized enormous benefits through our API.
“With Finch, we're guaranteed to have the info we need for year-end compliance testing — it's so much easier. Clients can connect their payroll system through Finch, and the data flows into PensionPro. No more chasing down incomplete or incorrectly formatted information.” — Michelle Skrip, President at Qualified Pension Professionals, Inc.
- We also announced our partnership with ASC, another leading provider of TPA software, in April. This collaboration opens the door to automated data collection to even more 401(k) administrators so they can focus on supporting sponsors — not chasing data.
New capabilities

We also enhanced our retirement-focused product offering:
- Payroll Mapping is now available directly in the Finch Dashboard, giving retirement providers a visual interface for mapping earnings and deduction fields across payroll systems.
- Deductions processing times have been decreased to ensure enrollments and updates are applied before payroll runs.
- ADP Run Deductions are now real-time, ensuring deduction updates take effect instantly.
- Assisted Deductions are now processed in 2 days vs. 7 days.
- Employer Match is now available in beta. This feature allows providers to automate the ongoing management of all elective and non-elective employer contributions across payroll systems — including fixed, percentage-based, or tiered matches — regardless of whether the payroll providers support this natively.
Expanding the ecosystem
The Open Employment Ecosystem depends on strong, strategic partnerships — and in Q1, we welcomed several new providers and deepened our commitment to existing ones.
Last year, we helped Justworks build and launch their first API, enabling broader data connectivity across the ecosystem. In Q1, we migrated our Justworks connections to OAuth, the most secure and reliable authentication method available. This migration enables faster, more stable connections — and marks another milestone in our mission to make the ecosystem more accessible, transparent, and developer-friendly.
We also added coverage for ECCA and Innova Payroll, expanding our ability to serve employers and applications across even more platforms.
Looking ahead
Our work in Q1 laid the foundation for an ambitious year. From expanding retirement automation to increasing ecosystem connectivity, we’re building for a future where Finch’s infrastructure powers every facet of work.
